We are aware of the contract dispute between Michigan Medicine and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the possibility that some Michigan Medicine facilities may leave the BCBSM network.

The union strongly believes that the university is legally required to give raises for the upcoming year to faculty and librarians like it usually has in prior years. However, MSU administration has a different interpretation of labor law. The union is pushing back against this flawed interpretation and fighting to ensure all faculty and librarians get their regular raises for the upcoming year.

“Status Quo” defines MSU’s obligations to the union and its members (and tenure stream faculty and librarians that are not part of the union) during the time period after union is recognized but before the initial contract is negotiated and ratified by the union.
